Dear Members and Friends,
New members will be received this Sunday: Nancy, Ed and Karen. Think with me about what that means for them and for us.
First, it mean these three have seen in us something worthy of their commitment. They have seen, in our often feeble ways, an expression of the Body of Christ. Among other things this means we are doing something right; something which speaks to the spiritual needs of those joining.
In this way, they are a gift to us. They are a gift of assurance that we are trying in our worship life, and service to the larger community, something in which they choose to participate. By their joining, they give us assurance. It is a great gift and we are thankful for it.
They also will change us. Any time there is a new member or active friend of the congregation, we welcome the changes their presence will make in us. I can look back over the last seven years and think of the many ways your presence has changed the congregation. I look around and see you and then realize, because of you, the congregation changed. We were blessed by the new insights and 'gifts of the spirit' which you brought. We look forward to the many ways Nancy, Karen and Ed will make us a different congregation.
Further, since we believe the Church is also, as St. Paul writes, 'the Body of Christ', I encourage you to think of the Church as a living thing, an alive and thriving 'Body.'
I give thanks for those who join or begin associating with us, knowing they are bringing gifts which will change us. I give thanks as I look forward, with you, as we continue to grow in faith, love and service in the name of Christ our Lord.
